Kane Shepherd was a Federation Starfleet security officer and line officer on active duty in the early 24th century. (Starship Deimos: "Sleeping Dragon", "Slingshot", "Polarization", and "Stranded")

Shepherd was assistant chief of security, and later chief of security, of the USS Deimos.

In 2309 or early 2310, Shepherd received additional duties as executive officer, and continuing as chief of security. ("Stranded")

This was assumed from his being in command when Captain Timothy Harper was part of a landing party on Harrakis V. ("Stranded")
