The Starfleet Corps of Engineers (also known as Starfleet Engineering or Starfleet Engineering Corps) is a Starfleet division that deals with specialized engineering problems. (DS9: "Rocks and Shoals")
History[]
The Corps of Engineers was responsible for the construction of the underground laboratory complex on the Regula asteroid, where the second phase of the Genesis Project was conducted. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
In 2375, during the Dominion War, Klingon starships were immune to the Breen energy dampening weapon by adjusting the tritium intermix of their ships' warp cores. This "fix" would not work on Federation ships and Starfleet Chief Miles O'Brien forwarded his findings to Starfleet Engineering for more in-depth analyses. (DS9: "When It Rains...")
In an alternate reality experience by Harry Kim, Kim worked at the Corps of Engineers, although it was called Starfleet Engineering Corps. (VOY: "Non Sequitur")
Expanded History[]
Orion Press[]
Admiral Robert Brown was the Starfleet Chief of Engineering in 2294. ("Chekov's Enterprise")
Star Trek: Phoenix-X[]
In 2367, a subgroup of Corps Engineers (sometimes referred as Tech-Team, Transwarp Research Team or X-Team) were directed by William Theseus, under the X-Project, to decipher data and utilize components from the Whale probe to develop transwarp technology on the USS Phoenix before shifting off to several additional Phoenix-ships at the Proxima Maintenance Yards. Work on the engine would continue on Earth in 2370, resulting in the engine being installed on the USS Phoenix-X. ("The Tiloniam System", "Experimentalism", "Secret Occurrences", "The Recruited")
In 2379, Armond joined the subgroup on Earth until leaving in 2382. ("Occurrence, Part I & II", "Spider Agencies, Part I & II") In 2383, the subgroup was found to be operating illicit engineering projects for Section 31 and were arrested. ("Transphasic Meltdown") Additional members included: Matt ("Secret Shuttles, Part I"), Monique ("Occurrence, Part II"), Borne, Korlaney ("Transphasic Meltdown"), Beck ("Departments") and O'Vera ("Forbidden Crossing, Part II").
Training and education[]
Starfleet Engineering Academy (also referred to as Starfleet Academy College of Engineering) -- with whom the larger division was associated -- was the college of Starfleet Academy tasked with the training and continuing education of Starfleet's engineers. (Star Fleet Technical Manual, Arc of the Wolf: On the Nature of Wind)
Midshipmen assigned to a starship or other Fleet facility for training were assigned to the billet engineer's mate. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
