An instructor is a teacher at Starfleet Academy. They can either be a civilian or Starfleet personnel, enlisted or an officer. Many beings have served as instructors as part of their career path.

Upperclassmen at the Academy could also teach first- and second-year cadets, e.g., James T. Kirk had been an instructor to Gary Mitchell. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")
