A command cruiser was a type of starship. Command cruisers were vessels that were purpose-built to serve as flagships for task forces. In wartime, these often took the place of more expensive vessels such as dreadnoughts or supercarriers.

As such, command cruisers had enhanced communications suites enabling them to coordinate task force activity.

Examples of purpose-built command cruisers included ships of the Balson, Osiris and Vincennes classes. One sub-class of a Romulan starship class was also considered as such. (RIS Bouteina)
